Zverev and Rybakina take the US Open
Alexander Zverev, the top seed, beat Ben Shelton 6–3, 7–6, 5–7, 6–2 in Sunday's final for his second major title of the season, after Roland Garros. Shelton's defeat extends a wait for an American men's champion at the majors that goes back to Andy Roddick in 2003.
A day earlier Elena Rybakina beat Aryna Sabalenka 6–4, 5–7, 6–2. It is her third major title and her second of 2026, and it confirms her place as world No. 1, a ranking she took just days before the final.
